Do not put us on your calendar to tile a floor if you have one or two cracked tiles over a sound slab. That is a spot repair, not a tear-out. A full 24 hours. We plug the drain, fill the finished pan with water, mark the level, and leave it overnight. If the water line holds after 24 hours the pan is watertight and we tile over it. If it drops, we find and fix the leak while the walls are still open. We never close a wall or set tile over a shower pan that has not passed a 24-hour flood test, and on a coastal home where the framing already fights marine humidity, that test is not optional.
